Hi All,
Has anyone downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 2? I did and it's funky! I need help with it! It has a popup blocker that is blocking popups I need to see, because it thinks they're adverts! I need to know how to disable it. I did in the control panel under Internet Options, Security, Internet, Custom Level and turned "Use Popup Blocker" to Disabled, and it's closed on the System Tray, and it sometimes works and doesn't block, but at times it does. Okay sorry for the runons but I'm really tired and it's really warm in here and I need help lol. Oh and other stuff with it is weird too, but just please let me know your thoughts/solutions.

Hi,

I actually found popup blocker also very nice and useful. The best way to turn off popup blocker, although I wouldn't recommend it is to click tools, click popup blocker submenu and one of the options there is "turn off pop-up blocker". Better option in my opinion is to allow pop blocker to ignore certain websites you choos. The way to do this is, again, click tools, click pop-up blocker, click pop-up blocker settings, when you are in there you should be in the edit box where you can type a specific website/s which you want to be on allow list, so pop-ups from this site/s will not be blocked. Note that it supports wildecards so you could just type *.domain.com so the rule would apply for everything on that particular domain including subdomains. Once you have typed a particular website it will be in the list and you can always decide to block popups from that site by choosing it from the list and clicking "block". Another way is to go to the "information toolbar" once the popup is blocked. Every time a pop-up is blocked, an information toolbar apeares. You can acces this toolbar by keyboard shortcut of alt+n, once you're there click on a button which says something like "to see this pop-up and configure settings click here" maybe not exact wording but something like that...once in there, one of the options is to turn pop-up blocker off for that particular site that you're on at that moment. Hope this helps.

The information bar is great, and the popup blocker is accessible through it. Alt-N is what brings you to it when you hear the popup sound.

My computer still makes a sort of blurp noise when I type in a site in the run dialog and hit enter. It's not blocking anything, just making a sound. Anyone know why?

Okay, now it's gone back to teh same old thing. Popups are being blocked, even though I have it disabled on the control panel and on the popup blocker menu. I've tried disabling it in the control panel and turning it on in tools, and vice versa. Nothing works. I have to hit open in new window every time, and it'll come up, but that's annoying. I can't figure out how to delete the popup blocker. I'll have to delete Windows XP SP 2 if I don't figure this out. Any suggestions?

Never mind. Yahoo! Companion's popup blocker got checked, so I unchecked that, and now everything's all good. So yay. I'm happy. Lol! Thanks to all who helped!

Hi, everyone, I've installed windows xp service pack 2, and it's turning off my antivirus software, and blocking popups, and giving me a hard time with certain programs. I use Gnucleus to download music illegally or leagally, I dunno, and I use a few other programs that use the internet, and it keeps blocking them, and it won't let me sign out of windows messanger. It's saying that some other program is using some features of windows messanger.

Any Ideas?

Thanks for your advice,

Could you not just turn off the firewall if it's causing so much trouble?
As for Windows Messenger there's a way to edit your registry to remove it or disable it or something. If you need to know more PM me or write back and I'll try and find it again.
